Chard
Description and features
Chard (Beta vulgaris, Cicla variety) is a variety of beet, belonging to the Chenopodiaceae family.
The Ribbed variety is a herbaceous plant both biennial and annual, which looks like a tuft of dark green leaves, with a white, fleshy and highly developed petiole, which branches out into pronounced ribs, precisely called "Coste".
There are numerous varieties, in fact, there are those with white, red or yellow stems. Beets have leaves covered with a hardened film which serves to limit transpiration, i.e. the elimination of water, and to maintain humidity in the plant. Chard is widely cultivated and consumed all over the world.
Produced varieties
Bietola da costa barese, Bietola Egnathia.
